Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) Facilitator. She has over 20 years'
government experience at both the field and headquarters levels and
over 10 years’ experience in private industry.
Beginning her
career with the U. S. Postal Service in 1981, Cory quickly worked
her way up the career ladder successfully being promoted to Employee
Development Specialist at the William F. Bolger Management Academy,
and then to Postal Headquarters as a Training Specialist. Surviving
the Postal Reorganization in the early 90’s, but not satisfied with
the reorganization of her job, Cory made plans to quit government
service. While networking to make this move, she met a Training
Officer with Department of Defense who was working only 22-hours a
week in a 40-hour a week billet. She was quickly invited to transfer
and job-share with the other Training Officer.
During her
Postal career Cory has trained hundreds of Federal employees in
career change, career management, effective résumé writing,
interviewing skills, MBTI, team building and other professional
skills. She has trained employees and supervisors in the field, at
Postal Headquarters, and at the William F. Bolger Management
Academy. She has been a guest and featured speaker at numerous
Career Awareness Conferences and Postmaster Conventions around the
country on the subject of Federal and Postal Service Careers.
Cory has also
worked with Arlington County in their Welfare-to-Work program,
enabling participants to identify career goals, skills and values
and make an effective transition into the workforce. She has worked
with clients at the Smithsonian, the Library of Congress, National
Institutes of Health, and Department of Health and Human Services.
As a Certified
Career Management Coach, Cory has coached numerous clients to career
success. Cory is qualified to provide and interpret several career
assessments and inventories. She has guided employees through career
transitions and career moves that have enabled them to succeed in
their goals.
In her role
with DoD, she instituted several training initiatives that have
directly improved the work environment, including New Employee
Orientations, Mentoring Programs, and a Toastmasters Club. She has
worked one-on-one and in group sessions with employees to craft
their Individual Development Plans (IDPs) and career action plans.
She continues to provide numerous skills development workshops,
including résumé writing and interviewing skills to her audiences.
Recently, Cory
has left government full-time to continue in the career development
arena helping people identify their career related values, skills,
styles, and professional identity in order to better understand and
craft a perfect career “fit” and then conduct effective job search
strategies.
She stays
current in the world of work through numerous active association
memberships, including National Career Development Association,
American Society for Training & Development, International
Association for Career Management Professionals, National Résumé
Writers’ Association, Professional Résumé Writing and Research
Association and local Chambers of Commerce.
